Italy: Andrea Pirlo new head coach?

Already selected by technical director Paolo Maldini and his advisor Leonardo to become Italy's new head coach, Andrea Pirlo has yet to be officially appointed.

The reason for the delay in his appointment is tied to a controversy that goes beyond football. The current Dubai United coach is, in fact, an ambassador for Fonbet, a Russian sports betting company. This has sparked a major scandal, prompting even the vice-president of the European Parliament, Pina Picierno, to react.

"Pirlo lent his prestige to an operation aimed at normalizing Putin's regime even while Ukraine was under bombardment. Appointing him would be a grave mistake.", she denounced.

Nevertheless, the former midfielder remains calm. The Italian can terminate his contracts with Dubai United and Fonbet at any time. And that's exactly what the Italian federation is waiting for.
