Ivory Coast: Idriss Diallo explains Faé Émerse’s departure
Whilst campaigning for the presidency of the Ivorian Football Federation, Yacine Idriss Diallo spoke on La3 about the decision not to renew the contracts of Emerse Faé and his coaching staff last August.
A record to be celebrated, but the end of an era
The outgoing president highlighted the results achieved. Emerse Faé won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil, reached the quarter-finals in 2025 and qualified Côte d’Ivoire for the first time in its history beyond the group stage of a World Cup. Idriss Diallo praised this journey but believes a new era must begin. Without going into the details of this new era, he justified his decision by citing the need to aim higher.
“I was the one who went to find him”
“I have no issues with Faé or Demel. I was the one who went to find Emerse at Clairefontaine and Demel when he was a pundit. When I appointed him, people called me mad,” he recalled. As a reminder, Émerse Faé and his staff were relieved of their duties last August at the end of their contract. The FIF has entrusted the national team to Hervé Renard, who is making a comeback after winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
