Jean-Philippe Gbamin has officially signed with FC Metz this Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Arriving from FC Zurich, the Ivorian midfielder marks his return to France’s Ligue 1 just a few months after his departure.

The Ivorian international, who has earned 19 caps, joins Metz as a free agent after leaving FC Zurich, where he had been playing since last winter. Jean-Philippe Gbamin has signed a one-year deal with the Croix de Lorraine club, keeping him at Metz until June 2026.

“FC Metz secures its third reinforcement of the summer. After Yannis Lawson (RFC Seraing) and Giorgi Tsitaishvili, it’s now Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s turn to join FC Metz. The new Metz signing will wear the number 5 jersey!” reads the club’s official statement.

A product of RC Lens, the 29-year-old arrives with solid experience in French football (47 Ligue 1 appearances and 79 in Ligue 2). His career also took him to Germany, where he played 86 matches for Mainz, before a brief spell in England with Everton.
