Joan Laporta reveals his move for Julián Álvarez

FC Barcelona is no longer hiding its intentions. Joan Laporta has confirmed that the Blaugrana have submitted an official offer to Atlético Madrid to sign Julián Álvarez during this summer transfer window.

The Barcelona president also made a revelation about the Argentine international’s ambitions. According to him, Álvarez already wanted to join Barça even before his move to Manchester City in 2022. At that time, the Catalan club’s financial difficulties prevented any move:

The player was already on our radar even before his transfer to Manchester City. What we did was a club-to-club proposal. (...) This is not the first time we have done business with Atlético, but perhaps this one is more delicate.

Laporta assures that discussions with Atlético are taking place in a climate of respect, while clarifying that the offer on the table will not remain indefinitely. The Madrid board reportedly explained that a departure would only be considered if they can secure a replacement.

According to several sources, Barça’s proposal is worth €130 million, including bonuses. If there is no quick breakthrough, the Catalan club may decide to pursue other attacking options.
