Johan Manzambi chooses Aston Villa

Aston Villa has confirmed one of the standout moves of this transfer window. The English club announced the signing of Johan Manzambi from SC Freiburg.

A breakout star at the 2026 World Cup, the 20-year-old Swiss midfielder was in high demand this summer. His performances for the Swiss national team left a lasting impression, with three goals and two assists in just four games during the tournament. For a long time, Manzambi looked set for Newcastle United, who appeared to be leading the race, but he ultimately chose Aston Villa. The club, managed by Unai Emery, managed to win over the player and his camp with their ambitious sporting project.

This signing marks a major investment for the Villans. According to Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee exceeds £50 million, approximately €60 million. After a stellar season with Freiburg—scoring 5 goals and providing 4 assists in 27 league appearances—Manzambi arrives in England with high expectations.
