Julian Hall matches a Pelé record with the United States
Julian Hall continues to make his mark with the United States. At just 18, the forward scored another goal in the Americans’ 3-0 win over Mexico, taking his tally to three goals in as many appearances. The performance saw him equal a record once held by Pelé.
Three matches, three goals
Julian Hall found the net once again on Saturday evening against Mexico. The forward opened the scoring in the 28th minute and played a part in the United States’ emphatic victory in this Concacaf clash.
Already a goalscorer against Peru and then Chile in his first two international appearances, the New York Red Bulls player now has three goals in three matches for the United States. He has thus become only the third player in the history of the American program to score in each of his first three games.
An achievement reminiscent of Pelé
This run also sees Hall match a feat achieved by Pelé with Brazil. The Brazilian legend scored in each of his first three international matches in the late 1950s. Julian Hall has therefore produced a particularly early achievement, at just 18 years of age. His start with the United States confirms the enormous potential that observers already see in him.
The victory over Mexico once again shone a spotlight on the young American generation. Hall scored the opening goal before 17-year-old Cavan Sullivan doubled the lead. Sullivan also made history by becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the United States men’s national team. Malik Tillman then scored the third goal.
