Khalil Ben Youssef reacts to Durban City appointment

Former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has opened up on taking over the reins at Betway Premiership side Durban City ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 37-year-old tactician was unattached after parting ways with the Soweto giants at the end of last season, alongside Cedric Kaze, who's linked with Sekhukhune United.

Chiefs finished in third place with 54 points accumulated in the Betway Premiership in the previous campaign, touching the 50-point mark for the first time in six years.

Amakhosi, as a result, booked their spot in the CAF Confederation Cup and qualified for the MTN8 after missing out in the last two editions, thanks to Ben Youssef and Kaze.

Now, the Tunisian mentor is set for a new chapter with the KwaZulu-Natal side, where he succeeds Pitso Dladla, who guided the team to a historic Nedbank Cup triumph last term.

“I am honoured to join Durban City FC and would like to thank the Chairman, the Board of Directors and everyone at the club for the trust they have placed in me,” Ben Youssef told the club's media department.

"This is an ambitious club with a clear vision for the future, and I am excited to begin working with the players and the technical staff as we prepare for the season ahead.

"My focus is on building a competitive team that reflects the values and ambitions of Durban City FC.

With the club having finished eighth with 39 points last season, it remains to be seen how Ben Youssef will fare in his first job as a sole head coach.
