La Liga: Barça can break Real Madrid's 2011–12 goalscoring record

Barça 2026–27 are a true steamroller. After thrashing Racing Santander last Wednesday (7–2) in La Liga, Hansi Flick’s team recorded a seventh consecutive win in all competitions, and their sixth in six La Liga matches.

Sevilla FC are Barça’s next opponents on Saturday, September 19, and they must already be trembling at the prospect of facing the Blaugrana’s attacking arsenal.

Raphinha’s teammates, with the winger leading La Liga’s scoring charts with nine goals, have scored 28 goals in six matches, an impressive average of 4.66 goals per game. They have beaten Elche (0–5), Athletic Club (2–0), Rayo Vallecano (5–2), Valencia (0–5), Levante (2–4) and Racing Santander (7–2).

Real Madrid’s record in sight

One has to go back to the 2011–12 season to find a team that scored the most goals in La Liga. It was José Mourinho’s Real Madrid, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Özil... who finished the season with 121 goals in 38 matches (an average of 3.18 goals per game).

Real Madrid scored 118 goals in 2014–15, while Barça scored 116 goals in 2016–17, 115 goals in 2013–14 and 114 goals in 2011–12.

In addition, only one other team has scored as many goals after six matchdays: Sevilla FC, with 32 goals under Pepe Murilla during the 1940–41 season, although they won only four of their first six matches.
