Lazio: supporters launch a historic boycott

The rift between Lazio and its supporters has reached unprecedented heights. With just weeks to go before the new season kicks off, the Roman club is experiencing a dramatic collapse in season ticket renewals—a direct result of the protest movement targeting president Claudio Lotito.

A drop of more than 93% in season ticket renewals

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, only 2,000 fans have renewed their season tickets for the 2026-2027 campaign at the Stadio Olimpico, compared to around 28,000 a year ago. This staggering 93.3% drop highlights the scale of the boycott orchestrated by the ultras, who are urging tifosi to stay away from home matches to ramp up the pressure on club management.

Dissatisfaction with Claudio Lotito is nothing new. Already in the second half of last season, the Olimpico stands had gradually emptied as a sign of protest against the club’s management. Now, leading supporter groups are calling on fans to prioritize away trips over home fixtures, hoping to force a change in leadership.

Lotito faces an unprecedented crisis

President of Lazio since 2004, Claudio Lotito has weathered several storms with the fanbase. Until now, the lowest number of season ticket sales under his tenure was in the 2016-2017 season, with roughly 4,000 passes sold.

The current figure is even lower, setting a new negative record for the Roman club. Even if results on the pitch were to improve, it will be a tough task for Claudio Lotito to restore trust without concrete changes in governance or sporting strategy. Lazio now looks set to start the Serie A season in an especially tense atmosphere, with minimal fan support at home games.
