Lebohang Maboe's strong opening to the season has not gone unnoticed, with the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder now finding himself included in the Bafana Bafana squad.
His recent run of form, which includes picking up man of the match honours in consecutive matches, has been further underlined by four goal contributions — two goals and two assists to his name.
That impressive output proved enough to catch the eye of Pitso Mosimane, who has handed Maboe a place in his first squad since taking charge of South Africa for a second time.
A dream come true
The call-up came as a source of real joy for the midfielder, who made clear that pulling on the national shirt has always been something he dreamed of.
"It's really, really a pleasure to don the national team jersey. It is a dream for every footballer, for every kid that grows up. I can never take this milestone lightly," Lebohang Maboe said.
At 31, Maboe stood out as the sole Amakhosi representative in the 30-player group chosen by Mosimane, and he will now get the chance to build on the 17 caps he has already collected when the upcoming international window gets underway.
South Africa's schedule opens with a 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, with Guinea the opponents at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, 26 September.
