Linafoot playoffs: Maniema Union stuns Don Bosco despite red card
Despite being a man down for most of the match, Maniema Union snatched a crucial 1-0 victory over CS Don Bosco, reigniting the battle in the middle of the Linafoot playoff standings.
The ninth-round clash of the National Football League (Linafoot) lived up to all its promises. In Kindu, Maniema Union secured a hard-fought victory by the narrowest of margins (1-0) against the visiting Salesian side from Lubumbashi, Don Bosco.
The turning point came early, in the sixth minute. After a perfect pass from Bakadi, striker Beni Namboka got behind the Lubumbashi defense to open the scoring. The Kindu side fiercely defended their early lead. In fact, Maniema Union finished the match with ten men following the direct dismissal of their goalkeeper Ougandari Ditan with a straight red card in the 53rd minute.
Even with the numerical disadvantage, the home side held firm and confirmed their superiority, repeating their victory from the first leg (2-0). With this fourth win in nine matches, Maniema Union climbs to 13 points and consolidates fifth place, just behind Don Bosco, who remain fourth with 14 points.
