Linafoot qualifiers: Les Aigles du Congo dictate terms against Lupopo and remain on top
In a dramatic finish to the ninth round of the qualifiers, Les Aigles du Congo maintained their unbeaten record with a 3-2 victory over Saint-Éloi Lupopo, holding firm at the top of the standings.
The atmosphere was electric at Tata Raphaël Stadium in Kinshasa. Table-toppers Les Aigles du Congo, still undefeated, continued their strong run against Lupopo. The Kinshasa side struck first just before the halftime whistle through Ibrahim Matobo ($45'+4$), before Jonathan Moba doubled the lead in the 66th minute. Lupopo saw a glimmer of hope after Enock Moulia pulled one back (59'), but Emmanuel Bola Lobota sealed the match from the penalty spot in the 84th minute. A late goal by Christopher Sombo (90') for Lupopo did little to change the outcome.
Thanks to this win, the Eagles—defending champions—remain unbeaten at the summit with 21 points, staying just ahead of TP Mazembe (4-1), who thrashed AS Simba. Meanwhile, Saint-Éloi Lupopo's woes continue, now languishing in sixth with only 9 points and stuck in a five-match winless streak, slipping even further from the top three.
