Linafoot qualifiers: TP Mazembe defeat AS Simba but remain in second place
After losing top spot following their draw in the Clasico, TP Mazembe bounced back in style on home turf with a convincing 4-1 victory over AS Simba in Matchday 9 of the play-off qualifiers.
The Congolese giants made no mistakes at their fortress, the TP Mazembe Stadium. Determined not to let Eagles du Congo pull away at the top, the Ravens of Lubumbashi asserted their dominance early. Liz Ntumba opened the scoring in just the 2nd minute and doubled the lead in the 23rd, bagging a brace. Shadrach Benge added a third before halftime (40’), sending Mazembe into the break 3-0 up. In the second half, Malian striker Cheick Fofana practically sealed the contest with a fourth in the 62nd minute, making it 4-0.
Despite a late consolation from Kinda Kalombo for AS Simba in the 79th minute, the Ravens’ composure never wavered.
With this convincing 4-1 victory, TP Mazembe remain on 20 points, still trailing the unbeaten Eagles (21 points) by one, who continue to top the table in these qualifiers. Meanwhile, the struggles mount for AS Simba: six matches without a win and they now slip to second from bottom with just 6 points.
