Linafoot qualifiers: TP Mazembe dethrone the Congo Eagles from the top

The title may have just been decided. At the TP Mazembe stadium, the Ravens dominated and claimed a 2-0 victory over the Congo Eagles in the eleventh round of the Linafoot qualifiers this Thursday. TP Mazembe reclaim the top spot with only three rounds left in the season.

The deadlock was finally broken right before halftime. In the 45th minute, Burkinabé striker Mado Zon opened the scoring, sending the Kamalondo stands into a frenzy. It was a painful blow for the Samurai, who had not lost a single match so far in the qualifiers. Patrick Mfaungulu sealed the deal, netting the insurance goal in the 90+2 minute and crushing the Eagles’ hopes, guaranteeing a decisive win.

The new leader is Mazembe

After their defeat to Maniema Union on June 7, Mazembe bounced back emphatically in front of their home fans and now lead the table with 23 points—just one point ahead of their direct rival.

The Eagles lose big

Holding a two-point lead before kickoff, Papy Mboyo’s men had the chance to soar toward a league double. Instead, they faltered and lost their grip on the top spot. Their unbeaten streak—six wins and three draws—came to a painful end. Now, with only three fixtures remaining, the Samurai’s fate is no longer in their own hands.
