Liverpool: Sam Allardyce wants to see Trent Alexander-Arnold return

Trent Alexander-Arnold is enduring a difficult start at Real Madrid. The English full-back left Liverpool in summer 2025 and has struggled for playing time since the start of the season. The situation has prompted Sam Allardyce to consider a return for the player to Anfield.

A difficult situation at Real Madrid

Alexander-Arnold joined Real Madrid after nine seasons with Liverpool, leaving the Reds with a record of 354 appearances, 23 goals and 92 assists. However, his time in Spain has been disrupted by injuries. This season, competition has also intensified with the arrival of Denzel Dumfries, who was signed from Inter Milan.

The Dutchman currently occupies the starting right-back position. Alexander-Arnold has therefore started only two of the first seven matches of the season.

Allardyce leaves the door open for a return

For Sam Allardyce, a return to the Premier League could be an option if the situation in Madrid does not change:

If he is to remain a Real Madrid player, he has to play more than ever this season. Otherwise, he should return to the Premier League. Liverpool would need to bring him back.

The former England manager nevertheless believes that his time at Real Madrid could have benefited the player:

At 27, Trent still has many years ahead of him. He is in his prime. The experience at Real Madrid should allow him to become even better than he was when he left Liverpool.

Since joining Real Madrid, Alexander-Arnold has made 40 appearances in all competitions. Although he has yet to score for the Spanish club, the defender already has eight assists. For now, the player remains tied to Real Madrid. Any potential return to Liverpool will therefore depend in particular on his sporting situation over the coming months.
