LOSC: Olivier Giroud announces his future retirement
As he prepares to celebrate his 40th birthday, Olivier Giroud has discussed his upcoming retirement from professional football.
On Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Olivier Giroud will celebrate his 40th birthday. The former France international took the opportunity to open up in an interview with L’Equipe. The former Chelsea Blues striker clearly indicated that he was considering retiring at the end of the current season. “We can do interviews for L’Équipe next year, with pleasure, but as a player, I think this is very likely my final season. That’s why I’m savoring every moment,” he said.
Olivier Giroud is leaving himself a small opening by saying “very likely.” However, this does indeed look like the upcoming announcement of his retirement as a professional player. Discovered by Montpellier relatively late in his career, the striker enjoyed a brilliant career, playing for Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan and Los Angeles Galaxy before returning to France, where he has been with LOSC since last season.
