Mainz: Silas Katompa returns to team training after seven months out
Silas Katompa is back. Sidelined since last March due to a serious injury to his tibia and fibula, he has returned to training with FSV Mainz. The Congolese international forward is making a gradual comeback, taking a first step towards returning to competition after several months out.
Silas Katompa has resumed training. The German club announced the news on its X account, formerly Twitter, expressing its delight at seeing its player back on the pitch.
“Great to see you back on the pitch! Silas took part partially in team training for the first time today,” Mainz wrote.
Injured on March 12 during a Conference League match against Sigma Olomouc, Silas was forced to stay away from the pitch for a lengthy rehabilitation period. Seven months later, the 28-year-old forward has taken another step by rejoining his teammates in training.
This return remains gradual. His partial participation in team sessions does not yet mean that he is ready to play in an official match again. The date of his return will depend on his physical progress and his ability to resume full training.
Last June, Mainz extended the Congolese international’s contract. The German club is therefore continuing to place its trust in a player who now hopes to turn the page on this lengthy absence and return to the Bundesliga.
