Mali: Florent Ibenge steps down from Eagles head coach role
Jean-Florent Ibenge will not be taking over as the new coach of the Mali national team. Although he was among the final candidates, the Congolese tactician decided to withdraw at the last moment. The Malian Football Federation must now restart its search for the Eagles’ next manager.
After a lengthy selection process, Jean-Florent Ibenge pulled out at the eleventh hour. In a statement published on June 2, the Malian Football Federation confirmed the news, stating that Ibenge stepped away for "family" reasons.
The Congolese coach, who is currently in charge of Azam FC in the Tanzanian Premier League, was one of five finalists shortlisted by the federation a few weeks ago. The shortlist also included Malian Mohamed Diarasouba, Moroccan Badou Zaki, and Portuguese managers António Conceição and Toni Da Silva.
