Mamelodi Sundowns announce first 2026/27 major signing
Mamelodi Sundowns have announced the signing of Antonio Van Wyk from Austrian Bundesliga outfit SV Ried for an undisclosed fee.
The deal comes on the back of the two clubs being at loggerheads as the Tshwane giants had their initial offer rebuffed in the January transfer window.
Moreover, talks had hit a snag in the ongoing window, with Ried reportedly holding out for a substantial fee in the region of €1 million (R18 million).
Sundowns, however, eventually forked out the asking price to lure the speedy winger to Chloorkop as they look to create competition in each position.
Van Wyk joined Ried in September 2024 from boyhood club Stellenbosch FC, swiftly establishing himself as one of the important figures in the squad.
He helped the team seal promotion to the topflight by virtue of winning the second-tier championship in the 2024/25 campaign.
The 24-year-old attacker went on to chip in with three goals and five assists in 35 matches across all competitions last season, further impressing Sundowns.
Van Wyk now joins a team that retains the hunger to conquer on the global stage, having won the elusive CAF Champions League title last season.
