Mamelodi Sundowns officially confirm the signing of Cassius Mailula!

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the return of Cassius Mailula, as the striker rejoins the club following a three-year absence.

The 25-year-old is back with the Brazilians after spending the last three seasons across North America with Toronto FC, along with loan stints in Morocco and Belgium.

Rumors had been swirling for weeks that Mailula might be on his way back to Masandawana, and with Peter Shalulile's recent departure, his homecoming now gives the gifted forward a chance to pick up where he left off with the Tshwane-based outfit.

Taking to social media, Sundowns welcomed their former star with a post that read: "A familiar face returns to where it all began. Cassius Mailula is back in yellow, ready for a new chapter with The Brazilians. Masandawana, welcome him back in the comments."

The club has stayed largely under the radar during the current transfer window. Their preseason schedule was thrown off course by the tragic passing of midfielder Jayden Adams, which also forced them to sit out the opening round of the Betway Premiership campaign last weekend.

Mailula's arrival bolsters Sundowns' attacking ranks and injects additional bite into their forward line, where he will now compete for minutes alongside Tashreeq Matthews, Iqraam Rayners, and Brayan León.

Prior to his initial departure for Toronto in July 2023, Mailula had a breakout season in 2022/23, racking up 16 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions for Sundowns.

His time in Canada, however, yielded only limited game time, prompting a loan move to Wydad Casablanca, where he featured under former Sundowns boss Rulani Mokwena and delivered several crucial goals for the Moroccan outfit.

A subsequent loan spell in Belgium followed before his contract with Toronto came to an end, ultimately paving the way for his return to South Africa.

Now back in familiar surroundings, the Bafana Bafana international has a golden opportunity to reignite his career and reestablish himself as one of the country's most electrifying attacking prospects—right where it all first began.
