Mamelodi Sundowns' Thato Sibiya draws interest from France
Foot Africa has learnt that Mamelodi Sundowns are in talks with an unnamed French club over the services of highly-rated defender Thato Sibiya.
The 20-year-old left-back is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the Betway Premiership following his exploits in the junior ranks for South Africa.
He was part of the Amajita squads that partook in the U20 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt and the FIFA World Cup in Chile last year.
Notably, Sibiya was promoted to the Sundowns first-team in January 2026 and went on to make a total of four appearances across all competitions last season.
The SA junior international is yet to make the matchday squad in the 2026/27 campaign, amid rife competition from Aubrey Modiba and Fawaaz Basadien.
Now, sources have informed this publication the African champions are locked in positive talks with a team from France for the transfer of Sibiya.
With discussions between the two parties understood to be in the final stages, Sibiya is said to have bid farewell to his close associates in Krugersdorp.
While the name of the foreign club remains unclear at this stage, the full-back looks set for a new chapter in France as he looks to establish himself.
