Mamelodi Sundowns to tie down Bennet Mokoena to professional contract

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to tie down exciting talent Bennet Mokoena to a professional contract ahead of the 2026/27 season, Foot Africa has learnt.

The 19-year-old striker has established himself as one of the lethal finishers in the country, scoring a staggering 22 goals in the Dstv Diski Challenge (DDC) last season.

He was three goals shy of matching Boitumelo Radiopane's record of 25 goals scored in a single reserve league campaign, but comfortably won the Golden Boot nonetheless.

Notably, Mokoena was rewarded with a debut in the first-team against Golden Arrows in September 2025 after netting four goals in a 5-2 win over Durban City in the DDC.

The goal poacher capped off an impressive breakthrough season with a goal against German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in a high-profile friendly match last month.

Now, this publication has been informed that the reigning African champions have tabled a professional contract offer, with the player expected to sign in the coming weeks.

Mokoena is understood to be untouchable at Chloorkop as he's considered an integral part of the project, with Sundowns set to compete on all fronts next term.

The Vaal-born forward is expected to get a run in the first-team as sources indicate that head coach Miguel Cardoso is keen to integrate him in the squad.

With Peter Shalulile's future increasingly uncertain, there appears to be a clear pathway for Mokoena to acclimatize himself with the senior team and fulfill his potential.
