Alongside Barcelona, Rodri has already completed his medical. But before the deal was made official, fresh details have emerged shedding light on Real Madrid’s role in this high-profile transfer saga.

Chased by the Merengues for several weeks, the 2026 World Cup’s standout player ultimately decided to join their Catalan rivals. This, despite Madrid’s persistent interest and his long-held dream of wearing the famous white shirt of Real Madrid.

According to El Chiringuito, Real Madrid’s opening bid was reportedly under 40 million euros in an attempt to land the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner. This offer fell well short of Manchester City’s expectations for their midfield general and only added to the internal doubts about his age and playing profile.

Barcelona, meanwhile, were far more determined to seal Rodri’s arrival—now just a formality before he’s officially unveiled as a Blaugrana.
