A key area Manchester United aims to reinforce is the defense—a line where the Red Devils have notably struggled over the past two seasons. Reports indicate that the club is eyeing Roma’s talented 23-year-old Brazilian full-back, Wesley França, as a genuine option for the future.

Manchester United's recruitment team have been busy compiling an eye-catching shortlist of options to reinforce their backline. Along with the Roma full-back, those higher up at Old Trafford are weighing up four other names currently plying their trade in the English top flight: Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton, Nottingham Forest's Murillo, Tyrick Mitchell at Crystal Palace, and Lewis Hall of Newcastle.

But when it comes to the Brazilian, United will not have things their own way. Atlético Madrid and Arsenal are both chasing the Roma defender with real intent, and each is said to be seriously assessing whether a deal can be pulled off.

It is worth remembering how the Brazilian ended up in the Italian capital in the first place. Wesley made the switch from Flamengo to Roma in the summer of 2025 for a fee of €25 million, and it did not take him long to nail down a spot in the starting line-up. His present deal with the Giallorossi is set to run until the summer of 2030, and Transfermarkt currently pegs his market value at €40 million.
