Manchester United: Lisandro Martinez issues statement against his bosses

13.10.26 FT Champions League

Atletico Madrid

Manchester United

On Tuesday evening, after Manchester United's 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on matchday two of the Champions League, Lisandro Martinez took aim at the Red Devils' senior figures.

On Wednesday evening, the Argentina international centre-back went even further by targeting the club's executives. In an official statement, the Argentina international justified his outburst.

Lisandro refuses to apologise

In his post on social media, Lisandro Martinez explained himself without, however, apologising.

"After the match, I spoke in the heat of the anger and frustration of not having achieved the result we all wanted. Those who know me know how I experience football: with passion, commitment and an immense desire to win. And when things do not go as we want, it hurts, especially when representing a club with the history and stature of Manchester United. My words reflect what I feel and how much I want to see this club fight for the biggest trophies. These high standards are part of my vision of football and of the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt. When I say that I want more, I am talking about the ambition we must all have within this club. Continuing to improve, becoming stronger and having everything we need to compete at the highest level. These are standards that we must all meet, starting with myself", said the Mancunian, before continuing.

"I know that, above all, it is up to us, the players, to keep our promises, and I am putting myself on the front line to take responsibility for that. We must demand even more of ourselves and work together to bring Manchester United back to the top. I believe in my teammates, our coach and everyone working to move this club forward. I am convinced that the way forward is to continue working together, with ambition and commitment. My objective has been the same since day one: to win, compete at the highest level and give everything I have for this badge", wrote the Argentine.

Manchester United's response is now eagerly awaited.
