Manchester United settles compensation related to Rúben Amorim’s departure

Manchester United has finally settled its accounts with Rúben Amorim. According to the Daily Mirror and Ben Jacobs, the English club paid around €9.5 million to the former coach to terminate his contract.

Compensation revised downwards

Manchester United’s Manchester United accounts for the 2025-2026 season reveal the amount paid to Amorim after his contract was terminated last January. The club paid £8.2 million, or around €9.54 million, to compensate for the early termination of the Portuguese coach’s contract.

That sum nevertheless remains significantly below the amount that had initially been expected. When Manchester United parted ways with Amorim, around 18 months remained on his contract.

Significant savings for Manchester United

Amorim’s and his staff’s severance package was initially estimated at £16.7 million, or around €19.4 million. The amount ultimately paid was therefore significantly reduced, notably because of the Portuguese coach’s new professional situation.

Arriving at Old Trafford in November 2024, Rúben Amorim ultimately spent around 14 months in charge of the Manchester club. His spell was notably marked by the 2024-2025 season, which ended with the club in 15th place in the Premier League, Manchester United’s worst finish in the Premier League era. After leaving Manchester United in January 2026, Amorim quickly found a new position, as he now manages AC Milan.
