Marchisio: “Woltemade is not like Ibrahimovic”
Claudio Marchisio has shared his views on the current Juventus team and made no secret of his reservations about Nick Woltemade. The former Turin midfielder acknowledges the German striker’s technical and physical qualities, but believes that comparing him with Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not justified.
Marchisio does not see Woltemade at Ibrahimovic’s level
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Marchisio was asked about the profile of Woltemade, who joined Juventus at the end of the summer transfer window on loan from Newcastle United. The former Italy international dismissed any comparison with Ibrahimovic, who also wore the Bianconeri shirt. “With all due respect to him, I don’t think so. Ibra is Ibra,” he said.
Marchisio nevertheless recognizes certain qualities in the young German striker, particularly his technique and physical strength. However, he believes that Woltemade still lacks the solidity needed to fully meet the demands of the role.
A return for Conte would appeal to the former Turin midfielder
Beyond the Woltemade situation, Marchisio also discussed the state of Juventus and his wish to see Antonio Conte return to the club’s bench one day. “There will always be nostalgia for Antonio,” explained the former midfielder, who has particular appreciation for the Italian coach.
Conte managed Juventus 133 times and won three Italian league titles with the club. He left Napoli in the summer of 2026 and is currently without a club. After the opening rounds of the championship, the Turin club sit seventh in Serie A.
