MLS: Lionel Messi scores for Inter Miami (video)
Atlanta knocked them out of the playoffs last year. This time, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami got their revenge. In front of 70,000 spectators at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Floridians secured a 2-1 victory during the 4th round of the MLS.
Atlanta opened the scoring early, with a header from Brooks Lennon (11th). But Messi was quick to respond. High pressing, a recovery, then a delightful dribble before a perfect lob. His first goal of the MLS season.
At 37, Messi continues to defy the stats. Fourth goal in 2025, 742nd for his club, 854th in his career. His long-distance duel with Cristiano Ronaldo (928 goals) still fuels debates, but the Argentine genius proves his talent remains unmatched.
In a closely contested match, Atlanta held strong. But Fafa Picault, who came on in the 84th minute, delivered the victory for Inter with a service from Jordi Alba (89th). Third win in four matches, Miami takes the lead in the Eastern Conference.
