Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane has officially signed contracts to join Qatari side Al-Shamal concluding his spell with Egyptian heavyweights Al Ahly.

As part of an ongoing squad rebuild ahead of the new season, Al Ahly have sanctioned another high profile departure. Ben Romdhane has successfully finalised negotiations and signed his transfer agreement with Al-Shamal.

The 26 year old Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane was notably absent from Al Ahly’s team training session on Monday taking the final steps to facilitate his exit from Cairo. His transfer makes him the sixth player to leave the Red Devils during a highly active summer transfer window.

A strategic midfield shift

Ben Romdhane’s move highlights Al Ahly’s current strategy of reshaping their squad while capitalising on market interest in their foreign assets. His departure allows the club to reorganise its roster, adjust the wage bill, and open up an invaluable foreign player registration slot ahead of the upcoming campaign.

For Al-Shamal, securing a 58 cap international is a significant piece of business. Club president Ibrahim Al Sada confirmed the signing via 365Scores stating that the club expects the Tunisian star to provide "the anticipated technical addition to the team" in the Qatar Stars League.
