Morocco: referral to the criminal court, Achraf Hakimi responds

Just minutes after confirmation from the investigative chamber of the Versailles Court of Appeal, Achraf Hakimi responded.

Achraf Hakimi has been referred to the departmental criminal court on alleged charges of rape. The confirmation of this referral paves the way for a trial in the coming months. "This decision is perfectly consistent with the elements in the case file," reacted the plaintiff's lawyer, Me Rachel-Flore Pardo.

In the aftermath, the Moroccan international responded in a message posted on social media. "Justice looked me in the eye and said: 'If you weren't famous, there would never have been a case.' I chose to remain silent for years. I thought that keeping my dignity, being patient, and trusting justice would ensure the right decisions were made. Today, a story that isn't mine is being told at the expense of my family, my life, and above all, the truth. Sometimes I feel like I've become an easy target. I've been waiting for this trial since day one. And now, I can't wait. Finally, I will be able to speak," he wrote.
