New battle for North African allegiance: Who will win the commitment of PSG midfielder?

Paris Saint Germain prospect Rayan Abo El Nay has emerged as the subject of a growing international tug of war, with Egypt & Algeria both pushing to secure his allegiance at youth level.

The 2007 born midfielder, eligible to represent three nations, is quickly becoming one of the most closely watched dual nationality cases in North African football.

Born in France to an Egyptian father and an Algerian mother, Rayan Abo El Nay can choose between Egypt, Algeria and France at international level.

Egypt move early to secure commitment

The Egyptian Football Association has already stepped up its efforts launching a coordinated approach to convince the PSG youngster to represent Egypt at youth level.

Algeria remain firmly in the race

Algeria however are not backing down. The Algerian Football Federation continues to monitor the player closely and is working behind the scenes to attract dual national talents across Europe.

Rayan Abo El Nay fits the profile perfectly, technically developed in France, with strong ties to North Africa and clear long term potential.

Strong numbers at youth level

On the European stage, he gained further exposure in the UEFA Youth League making 14 appearance scoring twice against Bayer Leverkusen & Tottenham and registering an assist against Atalanta.

Stepping up to the next level

His development has already been rewarded with promotion to PSG’s U23 squad. He has made three appearances in the Premier League International Cup although he is yet to register a goal contribution at that level.
