Newcastle United considers selling Yoane Wissa

Yoane Wissa could already be on his way out of Newcastle United just a year after his high-profile arrival. Struggling to make an impact on the pitch, the Congolese striker has never truly found his place in Eddie Howe’s system.

Arriving in September 2025 from Brentford FC for £55 million, Wissa was seen as a strategic signing to bolster the Magpies’ attack. The Congolese international was coming off a stellar campaign, having netted 19 Premier League goals in the 2024/25 season, which made him a top target.

His transfer also coincided with Alexander Isak’s record-breaking move to Liverpool FC for £125 million, further raising expectations around Wissa.

But reality has painted a different picture. Hampered by a knee injury, Wissa had to wait until December to make his debut. Since then, he has managed just 3 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions, with only four Premier League starts to his name.

A difficult integration

The former Brentford man has struggled to carve out a role in Newcastle’s squad. Used sporadically by Eddie Howe, he has never managed to build momentum or consistently trouble opposition defences.

His underwhelming performances stand in stark contrast to the initial expectations, to the point that the club is already considering moving on this summer.

A departure for Yoane Wissa as early as this summer would symbolize a failed signing for Newcastle, but also the club’s determination to quickly correct its mistakes. The question now is whether the Magpies can find a new destination for the Congolese striker—and on what terms.
