Neymar casts doubt over possible retirement
Retired from the Seleção since the 2026 World Cup, Neymar is now leaving his club career future shrouded in uncertainty.
Neymar’s future remains up in the air. Appearing at a charity auction held in São Paulo, the 34-year-old forward declined to confirm whether he would continue playing after his contract with Santos expires this December.
"At the end of my contract, I’ll think about whether I stay with Santos, move elsewhere, or hang up my boots. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do," admitted the former FC Barcelona and PSG star.
Despite injuries that have significantly disrupted his recent seasons, Neymar insists he feels physically well.
His father rules out retirement
His father and agent, Neymar da Silva Santos, was much more direct.
"Neymar loves playing football. What else would he do? He doesn’t have his medical degree yet, so he’ll keep playing," he joked.
While his club future remains undecided, Neymar has already closed the door on his international career. Following Brazil’s elimination by Norway at the 2026 World Cup, he confirmed he would no longer wear the Seleção jersey. That final appearance saw him score his 80th goal in 130 caps, converting from the penalty spot. He also provided 58 assists in national team colors.

The Brazilian Federation now wishes to organize a ceremony to pay tribute to him. However, the date, location, and format of the event have yet to be decided.
Over 220 goals in Europe
Neymar spent four seasons at FC Barcelona from 2013 to 2017, netting 105 goals in 186 matches. He lifted eight trophies there, including two La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys, a Champions League crown, and a FIFA Club World Cup.
His stint at PSG ended with 118 goals in 173 appearances and 13 trophies, including five Ligue 1 titles. His European tally stands at 223 goals in 359 matches.
Across his two spells with Santos, Neymar has racked up around 269 matches and 155 goals for his boyhood club. He also scored once in seven outings for Al-Hilal. His senior club career totals roughly 635 matches and 379 goals, or 765 matches and 459 goals including his international exploits.
Neymar also boasts 30 team trophies. Beyond his 21 European titles, he has won the Copa Libertadores, Copa do Brasil, three Paulistão championships, the 2013 Confederations Cup, and Olympic gold in 2016.
