Nico O’Reilly to miss the Czech Republic vs. England match; Tuchel selects the replacement

Nico O'Reilly is set to sit out England's next Nations League fixture against the Czech Republic, with his absence from Monday's training session confirming the setback.

According to the FA, both O'Reilly and Ezri Konsa — another player who featured for the full duration of the previous match — were put through individual programmes rather than joining the group at Tottenham Hotspur's training base on Monday.

Radical changes in the fabric of England

Konsa, though, is expected to shake off his issue in time to be part of the squad. Taking O'Reilly's place is Liverpool's highly-rated youngster Rio Ngumoha, who had been left out of the matchday group for the Spain fixture.

Reflecting on Saturday's encounter at Wembley, England had to dig themselves out of an early hole after Lamine Yamal struck in just the second minute. The hosts turned things around to lead the world champions 2-1, with O'Reilly setting up Harry Kane's goal just before the interval. But the tide turned again when O'Reilly surrendered possession, and substitute Alex Baena punished the mistake by pulling Spain level.

Spain, for their part, had fortune smiling on them too — Kane's failure from the penalty spot proved a turning point in what was a breathless, end-to-end contest, and Mikel Oyarzabal would go on to seal the win for Luis de la Fuente's men later in the second half.

For Tuchel's side, the fallout was a familiar frustration: costly individual slips. Marc Guehi was the man caught out for Yamal's early strike, and he was eventually withdrawn in favour of Jarrad Branthwaite. Should Konsa only be deemed fit enough for a place among the substitutes, the Everton defender stands ready to step in.
