Nico Schlotterbeck responds to Real Madrid
Linked with a move to Real Madrid, Nico Schlotterbeck has spoken out for the first time about the transfer rumors. However, the German defender remains focused on the 2026 World Cup.
Real Madrid continues to scour the market for central defenders. Despite several expected reinforcements in this area, the Spanish club is reportedly keeping a close eye on Nico Schlotterbeck, who has become one of Borussia Dortmund’s key players in recent seasons.

However, the German international doesn’t seem willing to fuel speculation as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup. Asked about Madrid’s interest, the 26-year-old defender preferred to keep his sights set on his immediate objectives:
"Yes, of course, you hear about these things through the media, but right now, all the focus is on the World Cup, on the first match."
Meanwhile, Dortmund has a strong hand to fend off potential suitors. Recently extended until 2031, Schlotterbeck is a central figure in the German club’s long-term project. As a result, persuading the BVB hierarchy to let him go will be an especially tough challenge for the Madrid board.
