OFFICIAL: Cape Town City winger completes move to Europe

Austrian Bundesliga outfit SV Ried have announced the signing of Jaedin Rhodes from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City.

The 23-year-old speedy winger put pen to paper on a deal that runs until June 2028 with an option to extend his stay for an additional season.

Rhodes came through the development structures at the Cape club, where he caught the eye since earning promotion to the first team in the 2021/22 campaign.

Notably, the player was previously linked with a move to the traditional Betway Premiership big three in Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs.

“I chose SV Ried because it has always been my dream to play in Europe. And I know that Ried is now the perfect club for me. My goal is to learn as much as possible and to write a piece of history,” Rhodes told the club's media team.

"Austrian football is fast-paced and very body-focused. My strengths are in the pressing and in the switching game - that's exactly what makes Austrian football.

Rhodes comes in as a direct replacement for compatriot Antonio van Wyk, who recently joined reigning African champions Sundowns on a long-term deal earlier this month.

“After the departure of Antonio van Wyk, we were looking for a player who covers Toni's strengths and is a little more determined in the direction of the opponent's goal,” said the SV Ried managing Director Wolfgang Fiala.

"Since we have good experiences with South African players, the market was of course interesting for us. Jaedin is a direct player who is very good at pressing and has a good feeling for the depth.

"We are very pleased that he has chosen SV Ried, although he had some other offers.

Rhodes will link up with his countryman Yusuf Maart at the club, with the former Chiefs captain having signed fo SV Ried at the beginning of last season.
