OFFICIAL: Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach appointed at new club

Tunisian Ligue 1 outfit US Monastir have appointed former Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Romain Folz as the club's new head coach.

The Frenchman put pen to paper on a one-year deal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, succeeding Tarek Jarraya, who guided the team to a fifth place finish last season.

Folz was unattached following an ill-fated spell with Tanzanian giants Young Africans in the 2025/26 term, where he was shown the exit door just three months into the job.

He boasts an impressive resume having been in charge of a host of clubs in Africa, including AmaZulu FC and Marumo Gallants in the lucrative Betway Premiership.

Moreover, Folz has also coached Township Rollers of Botswana, Guinea's Horoya AC, and worked alongside Arsene Wenger for FIFA's Global Football Development program.

‘Fohloza’, as the 36-year-old mentor was fondly known during his time at AmaZulu, is now set for a new chapter in Tunisia, where he hopes to turn around his career.

The highly-rated tactician has been tasked with securing a return to CAF inter-club competitions as the team recently participated in the CAF Champions League last term.

Whether Folz can make Monastir a force to be reckoned with in Tunisian football remains to be seen amid fierce competition from Esperance de Tunis and Club Africain.
