OFFICIAL: Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach lands new PSL club

Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit University of Pretoria have announced the appointment of Michael Loftman as the club's new head coach.

The 35-year-old mentor is set to succeed Kwanele Kopo, who was relieved of his duties after AmaTuks finished in a dismal 11th place in the second-tier last season.

He was lured from SAFA Western Cape ABC Motsepe League side Hout Bay United FC ahead of the expiry of his contract at the end of June 2026.

Loftman had been in charge of the amateur team since August 2024 after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns alongside then-head coach Rulani Mokwena.

The UEFA A License holder had joined the reigning African champions as a set-piece coach in the 2022/23 campaign.

During his time at Chloorkop, Loftman helped Sundowns win the Betway Premiership title and the inaugural African Football League ( AFL).

Notably, the Englishman has also held posts at Lusaka Dynamos, Orlando Pirates, Lommel SK of Belgium, Venda FC, and the Egyptian national team.

Whether Loftman is the man to return AmaTuks to the upper echelons of South African football remains to be seen, with competition for promotion rife in the second division.
