Official: Hervé Koffi joins Union Saint-Gilloise

It's official. Just one year after his successful loan spell at Angers, Hervé Koffi is back in the Jupiler Pro League.

The Burkina Faso international goalkeeper from RC Lens signs with Union Saint-Gilloise for the 2026-2027 season, with an option to buy. He comes in to take over the starting spot left by Kjell Scherpen, who has moved to Ipswich.

A return to familiar ground in Belgium

Koffi knows Belgium inside out. He launched his career at Mouscron before making his mark at Charleroi from 2021 to 2024. Three full seasons, over 100 appearances, and at least 8 clean sheets in each of those three campaigns. Union needed a reliable, experienced profile—and with the Champions League on the horizon, the Brussels management have gone for a keeper who knows how to deal with pressure.

A bounce-back season at Angers

Arriving from Charleroi in July 2024, Koffi endured a frustrating year at Lens, blocked by Robin Risser. Last season, he bounced back on loan at SCO Angers, writing a new chapter in his story: 30 matches, 10 clean sheets, and a defense that regained its composure. He was even voted Angers' player of the season and nominated for the UNFP Trophy. A few weeks later, he was awarded Best Burkinabè Player Abroad at the Étalon Or 2026 ceremony. All of which means Koffi arrives in Brussels full of confidence.

The Champions League on the horizon

This time, the stakes are higher. Union takes on Bodø/Glimt in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. Koffi is set to make his debut on Europe's grandest stage in the Union shirt. At 29, the Stallions' goalkeeper is stepping up to a new level. His goal: to become a mainstay and help Union shine on all fronts.
