Official: João Cancelo signs permanently with FC Barcelona

It's now official! João Cancelo is a FC Barcelona player.

After being loaned to FC Barcelona by Al-Hilal for the second half of last season, João Cancelo quickly convinced Hansi Flick. The Portuguese defender became one of the top priorities of Barça's transfer window. This Thursday, it's official: João Cancelo is back in Catalonia.

The former Manchester City and Juventus star now joins Barça on a permanent deal, following a first loan spell during the 2023-2024 season. João Cancelo featured in 42 matches for the Catalan club, compared to 23 appearances during his six-month stint last season.

A versatile defender, the Portuguese international is capable of playing on both flanks and gives Hansi Flick another valuable option. A highly anticipated reinforcement for the German manager to strengthen his squad.
