OFFICIAL: Kaizer Chiefs appoint new goalkeeper coach

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the appointment of Olivier Sorin as the club's new head coach as they continue to beef up the technical team for the 2026/27 season.

The 45-year-old Frenchman had been unattached after parting ways with French Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennes in February, ending a 12-year stay at the club.

He had joined Rennes as a player in July 2014, before being rewarded with a senior technical role in September 2017 upon the end of his playing career.

Sorin served as the goalkeeper coach under several tacticians, including Julien Stephan, Bruno Genesio, Sabri Lamouchi, and Jorge Sampaoli, among other at Rennes.

Now, he is set to succeed Ilyes Mzoughi at Naturena under the technical team led by well-travelled Fernando da Cruz, who was appointed as Chiefs' new head coach.

“Kaizer Chiefs have appointed Olivier Sorin as the club's new goalkeeper coach. He has signed a two-year deal with an option to extend for a further year,” read the club statement.

"The former professional goalkeeper, now a seasoned coach, holds a UEFA Goalkeeper A License. Over the past decade, Sorin has played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of several international goalkeepers, including Edouard Mendy, Steve Mandanda, Dogan Alemdar, among many others.

"Born in France, Sorin has now arrived in South Africa to join the technical team, which will be led by newly appointed head coach Fernando da Cruz.

Having finished third in the Betway Premiership last season, it remains to be seen how Chiefs will fare in the upcoming campaign with a new-look technical team.
