Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the appointment of Dillon Sheppard as the club's second assistant coach to Fernando Da Cruz ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 47-year-old tactician has been an ever-present figure in the team's Dstv Diski Challenge (DDC) side, serving as an assistant coach to Vela Khumalo since July 2024.

Notably, Sheppard was roped into the senior team by Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef in the second round of last season to help solve the scoring woes.

Moreover, he is no stranger to the Chiefs technical team, having previously served as an assistant to Arthur Zwane, Gavin Hunt, Stuart Baxter, Cavin Johnson, and Molefi Ntseki.

“Coach Sheppard will officially take on the role of second assistant coach, working alongside coach Fernando da Cruz and assistant coach Mahmoud Abbas, while continuing to serve as the vital link between the reserve side, where he collaborates with coach Vela Khumalo, and the senior team,” read the club statement.

"Sheppard did similar work with the previous technical team, helping Amakhosi to finish third in the Betway Premiership last season.

Meanwhile, Chiefs also announced that Sheppard recently obtained his CAF A License in addition to the UEFA A License he already possessed.

“Kaizer Chiefs are proud to congratulate one of our coaches, Dillon Sheppard, who officially obtained his CAF A License after successfully completing the qualification course in Tanzania,” confirmed Chiefs.

"Affectionately known as Sheppy, Dillan also holds a UEFA A License, which he earned before the latest qualification.

It remains to be seen how the Soweto giants will fare with a new-look technical team next season, with Da Cruz expected to begin his work at Naturena on 01 July.
