Kaizer Chiefs have announced the signing of goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner on a free transfer from Sekhukhune United ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Babina Noko reportedly missed the deadline to trigger the extension in the shot-stopper's contract, paving way for the Soweto giants to lure him to Naturena.

Leaner joined Sekhukhune on a free transfer from Maritzburg United in July 2023, and went on to make 45 appearances across all competitions, keeping 15 clean sheets.

He established himself as a trusted figure between the sticks, catching the eye of Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos, under whom he has earned three caps.

The 28-year-old goalie is now set for a new chapter at Chiefs, where he will be competing for a starting berth with Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, and Fiacre Ntwari.

“Kaizer Chiefs have strengthened their goalkeeping department with the signing of renowned shot-stopper Renaldo Leaner,” read the Chiefs statement.

"Born in Cape Town 28 years ago, Leaner arrives at Naturena with a wealth of experience, having impressed last season and earned a number of call-ups to the Bafana Bafana national team.

"We proudly welcome Renaldo to the Khosi Nation!

Whether Leaner will stake his claim as the first-choice goalkeeper at Chiefs remains to be seen, with the Glamour Boys set to compete on all fronts next season.
