OFFICIAL: Kaizer Chiefs cut ties with academy graduate

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the mutual contract termination of academy graduate Happy Mashiane ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 28-year-old defender spent the previous campaign on a season-long loan at Betway Premiership side Siwelele FC, where he made a single appearance.

Mashiane was promoted to the Chiefs senior team in the 2018/19 season and went on to play 69 matches across all competitions, chipping in with four goals and five assists.

His career trajectory at Naturena took a downward spiral after he received a red card in the CAF Champions League final against Egyptian giants Al Ahly in 2021.

Now, the left-back is set for a new chapter as he looks to fulfill the potential that once saw him being considered as one of the finest full-backs in the country.

“Kaizer Chiefs defender Happy Mashiane has left the club following the mutual termination of his contract,” read the club statement.

"The Tembisa-born player joined the Amakhosi development structures as a teenager before being promoted to the senior team at the start of 2019.

"Mashiane played a key role in the squad that reached the CAF Champions League final in Morocco in 2021. Primarily operating as a left-back, the 28-year-old has scored four goals for Chiefs.

"The former under-23 international also spent a spell on loan with Siwelele FC, gaining valuable experience during the 2025/26 season.

"We sincerely thank Happy for his valuable contribution to Amakhosi and wish him all the best.

With his versatility, Mashiane won't be short of suitors in the Betway Premiership as he's eligible to sign for any club of his choice on a free transfer.
