Three nationalities and an unusual career. Nürnberg winger, Mohamed Ali Zoma, has received his first call-up to the Italian national team for the Nations League. It is a strong choice for a player also eligible to represent Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire.

From Italy’s third tier to the Italian national team

The player made a name for himself by scoring 13 goals in Italy’s third tier during the 2023-2024 season, and the 28-year-old joined Nürnberg for €1.5 million, notably turning down interest from Anderlecht. His rise continued in Germany. Under Miroslav Klose, he impressed in the German second division, scoring 15 goals in 31 matches last season, and he has started the current campaign strongly, having already scored 5 goals in 5 rounds.

Says no to Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire

After the Stallions, whose coach Amir Abdou had contacted him, sought to recruit him, and after Côte d’Ivoire had also been monitoring him, Zoma finally made his decision. Roberto Mancini made him his surprise inclusion in the current September Nations League camp.
