OFFICIAL: Orlando Pirates flop lands new club

Former Orlando Pirates winger Gilberto has signed for Girabola outfit Wiliete Sports Clube as reported by Foot Africa on Monday.

This comes after the 25-year-old attacker was released by the Soweto giants alongside Karim Kimvuidi, Sipho Mbule, Bandile Shandu and Tshegofatso Mabasa.

Notably, his contract was due to expire at the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but Pirates opted to severe ties as the transfer failed to pay dividends for both parties.

Gilberto joined the Buccaneers in a high-profile move worth in the region of R10 million from Angolan giants Petro de Luanda in July 2024.

He only featured 12 times in the famous black and white jersey of Pirates, failing to register a goal contribution, much to the disappointment of the Bucs hierarchy.

The Angola international was eventually shipped back to Petro on a six-month loan deal in January 2025, but his stay was extended to December after a fresh agreement.

With the player deemed surplus to requirements at Pirates, the loan deal was further prolonged to June 2026, as his career was getting back on track in his native country.

However, his stint at Petro was marred with controversy as he was frozen out in April after breaching contractual agreements by featuring in a street football tournament.

Now, he is set for a new chapter with the 2025/26 Girabola runners-up Wiliete, who will be participating in the prestigious CAF Champions League next season.

Whether Gilberto returns to the heights that earned him a lucrative move to the Betway Premiership in South Africa remains to be seen.
