OFFICIAL: Stellenbosch FC sign Orlando Pirates defender

Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch FC have announced the permanent signing of Thabiso Lebitso from Orlando Pirates ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 34-year-old right-back is reportedly part of a player-plus-cash swap deal that saw highly-rated midfielder Mthetheleli Mthiyane switch the Winelands for Mayfair.

Lebitso joined Pirates in January 2024 from Chippa United and went on to make 27 appearances across all competitions, contributing a solitary goal and four assists.

While he had an injury-ravaged stay with the Buccaneers, he won four trophies with the club, including the coveted Betway Premiership title last season.

Now, he is set for a new chapter with Stellies, who look to stage a respectable finish next term after finishing in ninth place on the log standings last season.

“We are pleased to welcome Thabiso to the Cape Winelands,” Stellenbosch CEO Rob Benadie told the club's media department.

“He is a player who has consistently demonstrated his quality at the highest level of South African football and brings a valuable mix of experience and versatility to our squad.

“As a Club, we continuously aim to improve and compete at the highest level, and the addition of a player of Thabiso’s calibre strongly reflects that ambition.

Notably, Lebitso will reunite with veteran tactician Gavin Hunt, under whom he featured during his spell with Chippa United.
