OFFICIAL: Stellenbosch sign Ghana international

Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch FC have announced the signing of goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi from Ghana Premier League outfit Hearts of Oak.

The 25-year-old Ghana international has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the Cape Winelands outfit, who are undergoing a rebuild under head coach Gavin Hunt.

He kept five clean sheets while conceding nine goals in 12 league outings last season, before serving as a traveling reserve for the Black Stars in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Now, he is set for a new chapter in the lucrative South African topflight division, where he will be looking to dislodge the veteran Sage Stephens as Stellies' first choice goalie.

“Stellenbosch Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Ghana international Solomon Agabasi on a long-term deal,” read a club statement.

"Agbasi, who recently served as a travelling reserve for Ghana's national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, has officially signed for Stellenbosch FC after penning a long-term deal.

"The 25-year-old was previously on the books of Hearts of Oak and joins the Maroons' goalkeeping department, where he will compete alongside Sage Stephens and Nathan Garrow.

"Agbasi will wear the No.16 jersey this season and could be in line to make his debut for Stellenbosch when the Club takes on Kaizer Chiefs on 17 October 2026.

On the move to Stellenbosch, Agbasi expressed delight, and revealed lofty ambitions to help the club become a force to be reckoned with once again.

“I feel very excited to be part of Stellenbosch FC. Football has always given me a place to call home, and I feel like I am at home. Everyone has welcomed me and I feel good to be here,” he told the club's media department.

"I'm hoping to help the team get back to the top four in the league, and from there compete for the league and in the CAF Confederation Cup or Champions League in the coming seasons.

Stellenbosch, meanwhile, currently sit seventh on the log standings, having picked up nine points from their opening seven fixtures of the 2026/27 campaign.
