Ajax Amsterdam has secured its new goalkeeper. The Dutch club has officially announced the arrival of Marc-André ter Stegen, who joins on loan from FC Barcelona until the end of the 2026-2027 season.

Reunited with Míchel

After several months of uncertainty in Catalonia, Marc-André ter Stegen is looking to reignite his career in Ajax colors. The 34-year-old German keeper joins the Dutch giants on a one-season loan deal. The German international was no longer in FC Barcelona's plans, with Joan García having taken over as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.

His first loan spell at Girona last winter was cut short after just two league appearances due to injury. In Amsterdam, Ter Stegen will reunite with a familiar face: Ajax’s new head coach Míchel, who previously managed him at Girona. Sporting director Jordi Cruyff expressed his delight at the signing, praising the German keeper’s experience and qualities. He also revealed that the club had been working on this deal for several weeks.

An impressive trophy haul

Since joining FC Barcelona, Ter Stegen has played 423 official matches for the Blaugrana, collecting multiple national and European titles. He also has 44 caps for the German national team.

Ajax now hopes that his experience will help strengthen a squad aiming for the top spots in the Eredivisie and an ambitious run in European competition.
