OFFICIAL: Thapelo Maseko lands new club in Europe
Bafana Bafana attacker Thapelo Maseko has signed for Danish Superliga giants FC Copenhagen from reigning CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 22-year-old explosive winger inked a four-year deal in a high-profile move worth in the region of € 1, 500 000 (R28 million), ending a three-year association with the Brazilians.
He was unsettled at Chloorkop after being deemed surplus to requirements, which saw him spend the second half of the previous campaign on loan with Cypriot outfit AEL Limassol.
Maseko scored two goals and registered a solitary assist in 15 matches across all competitions during his time in Cyprus, before showcasing his talent at the 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and USA.
The SuperSport United academy graduate was a key figure in Bafana Bafana's historic World Cup run, netting the crucial goal that saw South Africa advance to the knockout stages of the global showpiece for the first time.
Despite eye-catching performances at the World Cup, the player's immediate future was away from Chloorkop, amid fierce competition in the star-studded Sundowns squad.
Masandawana, however, were reportedly reluctant to do business with local Betway Premiership rivals, with several clubs said to have expressed interest in signing the player but no move materialized.
It now remains to be seen how Maseko will fare in his new chapter with the 16-time Danish champions, who are currently looking to secure a spot in the UEFA Conference league through qualification rounds.
